Mr. Cowhey was born on May 15, 1956, and grew up in Philadelphia, PA. He was the valedictorian of the Cardinal Dougherty High School class of 1974. He attended Haverford College, graduating with honors, and attended Rutgers School of Law, from which he graduated with honors in 1982. He passed the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bar examinations in 1982 and worked for the Philadelphia law firm of Post and Schell specializing in medical malpractice litigation.
Mr. Cowhey’s ties to Atlantic and Cape May Counties date to the early 1960s when his family bought a summer home in Ocean City, New Jersey. Mr. Cowhey was a nine year member of the Ocean City beach patrol. In 1978, he met his wife of 30 years, Victoria, who now works in his office.
When their first son, David, was born in 1985, Mr. Cowhey relocated his family to Cape May County and Mr. Cowhey joined the law firm of Valore, McAllister, Westmoreland, Gould, Vesper and Schwartz – specializing in personal injury and medical malpractice litigation. He then became a partner at the firm of Hankin, Sandson, Sandman and Cowhey in Atlantic City. In 1991, he applied for and successfully tested to become a Certified Civil Trial Attorney. He was recertified in 1998. In 1992, he joined the law firm of Goldsmith, Weiss, D’Arcy, Cowhey and Smith. In 1997, Mr. Cowhey started his own law practice where he specializes in personal injury litigation.
Mr. Cowhey has been married over thirty years to his wife, Victoria. They have two sons, David and Matt, and a granddaughter, Lily.
